goldilocks grvl // social ride 01
Our standard weekly social ride from town. This is a beginner-friendly, all-levels ride β no matter where you are in your cycling journey, you're welcome here. Hang out after at The Grove for food, drinks, and new friends!
Details
New for 2026! Our group has grown too large for us to start at The Grove. Our start location has changed slightly, just down the street, to better accommodate a large group of people and all their bikes at once. We'll still finish for hangs, drinks, and food at the Grove. The routes have been updated to reflect this change.
- πStart: Discovery Park Northwest Crossing, at the covered picnic area near the center of the park. Get directions here.
- π Finish: The Grove in Northwest Crossing β 921 Northwest Mount Washington Drive, Bend, OR 97703
- β° Time: 5:15 PM meet. 5:30 PM wheels roll sharp.
Routes
We offer two different routes depending on which pace group you plan to ride with. A is slightly longer than B. See below for more info about pace groups.
For this ride, we're doing a slightly updated version of previous year's "Red Dirt" route.
Please download these routes to your navigation device of choice before the ride. If you don't have a dedicated bike computer, that's okay β download to your phone. Make sure it's in a format you can still access if you lose cell service (like "offline mode" in Strava or Ride With GPS).
While you'll most likely spend this ride with lots of new friends you can follow along with, we can't guarantee you won't get separated from the group. We expect every rider to always show up 100% self sufficient and prepared, with the routes reviewed and downloaded in advance.
We aim to be as supportive as possible, but always remember this is an volunteer-run community club, not a guided tour.
Pace groups
We generally have two pace groups available. Each group will have a designated ride leader.
π₯ A Group β drop ride
Faster pace group, typically on a longer route. The ride leader will regroup a few times throughout the ride to try to mostly keep us together, but stops will be brief to keep us moving at a steady pace.
If you're a reasonably strong and somewhat experienced rider, don't be afraid to try A Group! When we say "fast" we don't mean we're racing all-out β we're just moving along at a more spirited pace on a longer route. If you're at all on the fence about which group to join, we encourage you to challenge yourself! If you get dropped, it's not a big deal. It means you tried something hard, and that's always something to be proud of.
π₯³ B Group β (mostly) no-drop
All vibes, shorter route, and as best we can, "no-drop." This is a chill pace group with lots of regroups so no one gets left behind. Great if you're a beginner rider or just prefer to take it at full party pace.
If B Group is really large, we may split into B and C groups so everyone has a better-tailored pace to stick with.
We aim to be as true to "no-drop" as possible. However, with a large group and a wide range of abilities, we can't 100% guarantee you won't get separated. Always come prepared and self-sufficient β download the route in advance, bring basic repair tools, and know how to use them.
Before you ride
Sign up first!
If this is your first ride with GGCC, you'll need to complete our sign-up form before joining. It's quick β we'll collect some basic info, have you review the Code of Conduct, and ask you to sign our ride waiver. You must complete this before your first ride, no exceptions.
Code of Conduct
You reviewed the Code of Conduct when you signed up, but it's worth a quick refresher β especially if it's been a while. Here are the highlights:
- Safety first. Follow the rules of the road and ride predictably.
- Be aware of others. Slow down around pedestrians, call out hazards, and give a friendly heads-up when passing.
- Help each other out. If someone has a mechanical, stop and lend a hand when you can.
- Follow your ride leaders. They're volunteers donating their time β listen to their calls and treat them with kindness.
- Represent GGCC well. Be courteous to drivers, other trail users, and the businesses and neighborhoods we ride through.
